Optimism is by no means my strong point.
After buying an abundance of self help books, which I must say did nothing to improve my pessimistic outlook on life, I found myself struggling to be happy.
At first, I believed there to be something wrong with me. I mean maybe there is, but perhaps there is also something wrong with our ideology and the way we interpret things as a society.
The vast majority of the human race regard themselves to be unhappy, which then goes on to see us take part in different processes to achieve happiness, only to be stopped short in our tracks. We seem to be always chasing it but somehow it always tends to be just out of our reach.
Now the reason to why we can never reach happiness, is simply because it doesn’t exist.
Yes, I know this may be a little controversial, but what other way can you explain it.
First off, the term happiness is subjective, it differs from person to person. In my mind it’s a liquid state, forever changing, moving around and falling through our fingers…never in our grip.
secondly, happiness is a social construct & is often used to describe the feeling of being content. This inaccurate use of terminology further aids our confusion of emotions, leaving us to wonder why our ‘happiness’ never seems to be a long term emotional state.
The mere fact that we are continuously indulging into things that we believe will make us happy, in itself proves that we are incapable of happiness irregardless of its true existence. We end up getting lost in the cycle of consumerism which evidently goes on to make us even more unhappy… the exact opposite of what we had set out to achieve in the first place.
Stop chasing the non existent & start living
